The Internet Society (ISOC) was founded in 1992 with the aim of providing leadership of the Internet in order to ensure the use of uniform standars across the world. It is headquartered in the state of Virginia in the USA and has chapters in most countries.S
The ISOC supports the work of the Internet Architecture Board (IAB), that directs and controls the studies about the Internet.
The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) was formed in 1986 and integrated into the ISOC, its mission is to develop standards and data communication protcols.
The Internet Research Task Force works closely with the IETF however works on longer term research projects than the IETF.
These main bodies, along with a few others, form the ISOC.
